Online Trainers' Course

IIf you are taking the online Level 1 or Level 1 Refresher course, when you select your branch please choose ODHA/ODMHA and not the OMHA.

Upon successful completion of the Level 1 or Level 1 Refresher online course and exam, you will be able to generate a printable Certificate of Completion and/or wallet card from the Learning Centre. Your affiliated Branch/Division will also receive an automatic notification of your certification. Final approval is granted by the affiliated Branch/Division upon verification of eligibility and your HTCP certification status and expiry date will be entered or updated in the Hockey Canada Registry. IMORTANT NOTE: This site is not linked to the HCR system, therefore your HTCP certification is not automatically uploaded. Please consult with your affiliated Branch/Division regarding their procedure for processing your certification into the HCR. A list of Branch/Division contact personnel can be found in the FAQs section.

HTCP certification numbers will not be issued upon completion of the online courses. It will be the responsibility of each Branch/Division to assign certification numbers and/or provide wallet cards to their respective participants if they wish to do so. Please contact your affiliated Branch/Division for further information. Note: The number on your Certificate of Completion is not an HTCP number.

To register for the online Level 1 or Level 1 Refresher, or get more information, please visit Hockey Development Centre for Ontario.

Organizing Special Events

If coaches wish to organize extra curricular events outside of normal ice times, like off-ice practices or team social events, they should fill-in and submit an event request form. The form will extend the association's insurance to cover the event should anything happen. Forms should be submitted 72 hours prior to the event so that they can be processed in a timely manner.

Some key points that should be part of the form before sending:

  • No abbreviations (please write the complete team name).
  • If an activity is taking place at a school, please indicate the name of the school as well as the school board.
  • If it is a dryland training activity, please have team provide a detailed list of the dryland activities taking place.
  • Name and address of the location of the event is a must.

Volunteer Screening Information Help

All coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, and team managers are required to submit an updated security screening form every season. Please note that KDMHA will accept screening applications recently completed for other volunteer associations with children under the age of 18 (e.g., soccer, baseball, lacrosse, etc.) – the screening results must be dated May 1, 2011 or more recent to qualify for the 2011/12 season.

  1. Complete the Volunteer/Applicant Screening Process form (form LE220E).
  2. Complete the six asterisked sections on the Request for Vulnerable Sector Check form (form LE225 Aug 2010).
  3. Drop-off at the North Grenville OPP detachment – 8:30 am-4:00 pm. Typical turnaround time is about one week. For those that can’t drop-in to the OPP during regular hours, complete steps 1. (include photocopy of id – driver's license, birth certificate, etc.) and 2. above, remember to sign where required, and mail to: KDMHA Screening, PO Box 1633, Kemptville, ON. K0G 1J0. Alternatively, completed applications can be dropped off at 163 Muldoon Road (Bart Millson, KDMHA president, president@kemptvillehockey.com, 258-3399) or 313 Jack Street (Angela Meulenbroek, KDMHA registrar, registrar@kemptvillehockey.com, 258-7834). KDMHA will then take responsibility for submitting your application.
  4. To save the time and effort to pick-up your completed screening, the North Grenville OPP detachment has agreed to release all cleared screenings directly to the KDMHA president, Bart Millson (note that screenings with a “hit” of any activity will not be released – these individuals will have to pick-up on their own). Please include a note with your application if you do not want your cleared screening released to the KDMHA president.

If you have any questions or require help filling in the screening form, please contact the Risk & Safety officer (Eric Lavoie, elavoie1@cogeco.ca or 613-258-9414).

H1N1 Information

The KDMHA has always made, and continues to make, the health and safety of all its participants a high priority, therefore, we are making available the following list of precautions that people can use to help stop the possible spread of the H1N1 virus:

  1. Players should be urged to report all illnesses to their parents and the Safety Person/Trainer. Parents are urged to keep their children away from the hockey environment if they are showing any signs of infectious disease or virus. Sick players are encouraged to see their physician if showing signs or symptoms of the H1N1 virus, and to be fully recovered prior to returning to play.
  2. Players should be encouraged to wash hands routinely and always after handling hockey equipment. Frequent hand washing with soap and water is one of the best preventions we can recommend. Teams are encouraged to carry extra hand soap or hand sanitizer as not all arenas have this readily available.
  3. Talk to your players about covering their mouths and nose when coughin>>g or sneezing using their arm as opposed to their hands.
  4. Advise players to try and not touch their own mouths or nose when in the hockey environment to reduce the chance of them passing an infection on to themselves.
  5. Ensure all players and staff have their own water bottles labeled with names and players numbers. Sport drink bottles should be avoided as direct lip contact is possible when drinking.
  6. Officials and coaches should avoid drinking from other players water bottles and have water readily available to them on their perspective benches.
  7. Towels should be removed from all benches. Players should not share towels, clothing, bar soap or other personal items such as razors.
  8. Assist athletes in protecting their immune system by stressing they get sufficient sleep, that they do not over train and that they get proper nutrition.

Hockey Equipment

It is the responsibility of every player to ensure that they are outfitted with the proper CSA approved equipment and that they conduct themselves in a safe manner. Players missing equipment or wearing it in an improper fashion will not be allowed to play.

All players in the KDMHA must be correctly wearing the following CSA approved equipment before stepping on the ice:

All Players

In addition to all other equipment, goalies are also required to wear:
